I haven’t written in so long, and it’s mainly because I’ve only recently regained the opportunity to relax and breathe for a bit.  The summer now means a short lull in projects, which is certainly warmly welcomed.  I’ve been going non stop all year with sewing projects mostly (don’t worry, I still have a couple on the queue), and now I have some slow time until Thomas and I get married and we head to Bogota, Colombia for a month long married getaway. 

A major project I was working on with Thomas was decorations for our friends’ wedding, and it turned out to be super awesome.  The bride left everything to me to dream up on my own, and Thomas and I combined brains to come up with some pretty crazy table toppers.  I haven’t gotten copies of the professional photos yet so you’ll have to bear with my simple snapshots!

I created a custom banner for the couple, which was something I’d never even seen before.  Their flowers were pink, orange, and green peonies so that was the inspiration for the fabric!  Somehow we got into birdy feelings too, so you’ll see how the theme transformed into bright crazy nature!

The staircase the bride walked down had tissue paper peonies lining the banister, just enough to give it some color. 

Thomas and I found a cut tree on the side of the road and scavenged the branches for the centerpieces.  Thomas spent HOURS painting the branches, and I arrived later in the evening to help him finish up the second coat.  You’d be surprised how long it takes to paint thin sticks.  

Tiny paper peonies hung off the chairs in the dining area. 

Thomas stayed up late one evening mixing and baking these bird seed decoration/favors for the wedding, patient as ever.  I made tiny tags to put on the top of the hearts that read: Eat + Be Merry.  Thomas topped it off with cut wooden hearts with K + B cut into them, the couple’s initials. 

One of my favorite parts was the tiny notebooks we made for entertainment and favors.  We paired them with half-sized colored pencils (Thomas sawed them in half!) so people could leave notes for the couple or take home as a favor. 

After schlepping the centerpieces, crazy wood and all, all the way to Durham, North Carolina for the wedding and back, I couldn’t bear to part with them.  So, yes, we have them in storage, hoping I’ll need sticks again some day soon!
