I’ve been slowly spooking up the house this month and my favorite handmade thing this year is the quilted blanket I made from a single piece of cotton from Alexander Henry’s 2010 Halloween Collection. The fabric is just too beautiful and interesting to cut up, and so I decided to do long stitches around the images to quilt the piece, attaching it to the backing (made from luxurious orange and green cotton velveteen). The binding is a creamy white with small patches of black interspersed. It is a lap blanket/throw size, perfect for cuddling up on cool Autumn nights! Nothing beats the softness of velveteen.

Jonathan Adler crazy

I can’t get off this site.  It’s driving me nuts.  It’s all just too good.

Hip-star

I hate to promote Urban Outfitters because it’s a bit sacrilegious to be TOLD how to be an individual, but this American flag print throw is pretty awesome.  Love the colors, love the idea.  I have a giant antique American flag from back when Alaska and Hawaii were mere dreams, and when they still sewed the stars and stripes on individually (a steal from a yard sale for a teeny $20 - it’s about 8 feet wide) and faded in all the right places.  I feel like Uncle Sam is going to reach down and strike me dead if it ever touches the ground or anything dirty, so this is a carefreeish alternative!  Downside? It’s made out of acrylic (yuck) but I know Spundone is out there reading this so you can feel free to make me a high quality one ANYTIME!
